Aarti · Braj · Krishna

Aarti Kunjbihari ki, Shri Giridhar Krishna Murari ki.

This is the aarti of Krishna who roams the groves, who lifted the mountain, the slayer of Mura.

Gale mein baijanti mala, bajavai murli madhur bala. Shravan mein kundal jhalkala, Nand ke anand Nandlala. Nand ke nand, Shri anandkand, Mohan Brajchand, Radhika raman Bihari ki.

A garland of forest flowers on his neck, the young one plays his sweet flute. Earrings sparkle in his ears; he is Nanda’s joy, Nanda’s darling, the root of all bliss, the moon of Braj, the beloved who delights Radha.

Gagan sam ang kanti kali, Radhika chamak rahi aali. Latan mein thadhe Banmali, bhramar si alak, kasturi tilak, chandra si jhalak, lalit chhavi Shyama pyari ki.

His body is dark as the sky, and beside him Radha shines like lightning. The wearer of forest garlands stands among the vines, curls dark as bees, a musk mark on his brow, glowing like the moon: the charming form beloved of Radha.

Kanakmay mor mukut bilsai, devta darsan ko tarsain. Gagan son suman raasi barsai, baje murchang, madhur mirdang, gvalin sang, atul rati gop kumari ki.

His golden peacock crown gleams and the gods long to see him. Flowers rain from the sky, the jaw harp and sweet drums play, and he is with the cowherd girls, whose love for him is beyond compare.

Jahan te prakat bhai Ganga, kalush kali harini Shri Ganga. Smaran te hot moh bhanga, basi Shiv sees, jata ke beech, harai agh keech, charan chhavi Shri Banwari ki.

From these feet flowed the Ganga, who washes away the stains of this age; remembering her breaks the spell of illusion. She lives in Shiva’s matted hair and clears the mire of sin. Such is the beauty of Banwari’s feet.

Chamakti ujjval tat renu, baj rahi Vrindavan benu. Chahun disi gopi gvaal dhenu, hansat mridu mand, chandni chand, katat bhav phand, ter sun deen dukhari ki.

The sand on the riverbank sparkles and the flute plays in Vrindavan, with gopis, cowherds and cows all around. He smiles gently under the moonlight, and hearing the cry of the humble and suffering, he cuts the snare of worldly life.
