1. காணி நிலம் வேண்டும் பராசக்தி, காணி நிலம் வேண்டும் அங்கு, தூணில் அழகியதாய் நன்மாடங்கள், துய்ய நிறத்தினதாய் அந்தக், காணி நிலத்திடையே ஓர் மாளிகை, கட்டித் தரவேண்டும் அங்கு, கேணி அருகினிலே தென்னைமரம், கீற்றும் இளநீரும்.

   Kaani nilam vendum paraasakthi, kaani nilam vendum angu, thoonil azhagiyadhaai nanmaadangal, thuyya niraththinadhaai andhak, kaani nilaththidaiye or maaligai, kattith tharavendum angu, keni aruginile thennaimaram, keetrum ilaneerum.

   I want a small plot of land, O Parashakti, just a little land; and there, on that land, build me a house with beautiful pillars, fine rooms and pure colours; and there, near the well, coconut palms with their fronds and tender coconuts.

   हे पराशक्ति, मुझे थोड़ी-सी ज़मीन चाहिए, बस एक छोटा टुकड़ा; और वहाँ उस ज़मीन पर मेरे लिए सुंदर खंभों, अच्छे कमरों और निर्मल रंगों वाला एक घर बना दो; और वहाँ कुएँ के पास नारियल के पेड़, उनके पत्तों और कच्चे नारियलों के साथ।

2. பத்துப் பன்னிரண்டு தென்னைமரம், பக்கத்திலே வேணும் நல்ல, முத்துச் சுடர்போலே நிலாவொளி, முன்பு வரவேணும் அங்கு, கத்துங் குயிலோசை சற்றே வந்து, காதிற் படவேணும் என்றன், சித்தம் மகிழ்ந்திடவே நன்றாய் இளந், தென்றல் வரவேணும்.

   Paththup pannirandu thennaimaram, pakkaththile venum nalla, muththuch chudarpole nilaavoli, munbu varavenum angu, kaththung kuyilosai satre vandhu, kaadhir padavenum endran, siththam magizhndhidave nandraai ilan, thendral varavenum.

   I want ten or twelve coconut palms nearby; moonlight like the glow of fine pearls should fall in front; the call of the koel should now and then reach my ears; and to delight my heart, a gentle young southern breeze should blow.

   मुझे पास में दस-बारह नारियल के पेड़ चाहिए; सामने अच्छे मोतियों की चमक जैसी चाँदनी आनी चाहिए; कूकती कोयल की आवाज़ कभी-कभी मेरे कानों तक आनी चाहिए; और मेरे मन को प्रसन्न करने के लिए कोमल दक्षिणी हवा चलनी चाहिए।

3. பாட்டுக் கலந்திடவே அங்கேயொரு, பத்தினிப் பெண்வேணும் எங்கள், கூட்டுக் களியினிலே கவிதைகள், கொண்டுதர வேணும் அந்தக், காட்டு வெளியினிலே அம்மா நின்றன், காவலுற வேணும் என்றன், பாட்டுத் திறத்தாலே இவ்வையத்தைப், பாலித்திட வேணும்.

   Paattuk kalandhidave angeyoru, paththinip penvenum engal, koottuk kaliyinile kavidhaigal, kondu thara venum andhak, kaattu veliyinile ammaa nindran, kaavalura venum endran, paattuth thiraththaale ivvaiyaththaip, paaliththida venum.

   There I want a faithful woman to share songs with me; in our shared joy she should bring me poems; in that open countryside, Mother, I want your protection; and through the power of my songs I want to nurture this world.

   वहाँ मुझे गीतों में साथ देने वाली एक पतिव्रता स्त्री चाहिए; हमारे साझे आनंद में वह मेरे लिए कविताएँ लाए; उस खुले जंगल-मैदान में, माँ, मुझे तुम्हारी रक्षा चाहिए; और अपने गीतों की शक्ति से मैं इस संसार का पालन करना चाहता हूँ।
