जय काली कलिमलहरण, महिमा अगम अपार।
महिष मर्दिनी कालिका, देहु अभय अपार॥Jai Kali kalimal haran, mahima agam apar. Mahish mardini Kalika, dehu abhay apar.
Victory to Kali, who washes away the impurities of the Kali age, whose greatness is unfathomable and boundless. Kalika, slayer of Mahisha, grant us complete freedom from fear.
कलियुग के पापों को हरने वाली काली की जय, जिनकी महिमा अगम और अपार है। हे महिषासुर-मर्दिनी कालिका, हमें अपार अभय दीजिए।

अरि मद मान मिटावन हारी।
मुण्डमाल गल सोहत प्यारी॥Ari mad man mitavan hari. Mundmal gal sohat pyari.
You crush the pride and arrogance of enemies; a garland of heads graces your neck.
आप शत्रुओं का मद और अभिमान मिटाने वाली हैं; आपके गले में मुंडमाला शोभा देती है।

अष्टभुजी सुखदायक माता।
दुष्टदलन जग में विख्याता॥Ashtabhuji sukhdayak mata. Dushtdalan jag mein vikhyata.
Eight-armed Mother, giver of happiness, you are famed in the world as the crusher of the wicked.
आठ भुजाओं वाली, सुख देने वाली माता, आप दुष्टों का दमन करने वाली के रूप में जगत में विख्यात हैं।

भाल विशाल मुकुट छवि छाजै।
कर में शीश शत्रु का साजै॥Bhal vishal mukut chhavi chhajai. Kar mein shish shatru ka sajai.
A crown shines on your broad forehead, and an enemy’s head is held in your hand.
विशाल माथे पर मुकुट शोभा देता है, और हाथ में शत्रु का सिर सजा है।

दूजे हाथ लिए मधु प्याला।
हाथ तीसरे सोहत भाला॥Dooje hath liye madhu pyala. Hath teesre sohat bhala.
In your second hand you hold a cup of wine, and in the third a spear shines.
दूसरे हाथ में मधु का प्याला है, और तीसरे हाथ में भाला शोभा देता है।

चौथे खप्पर खड्ग कर पांचे।
छठे त्रिशूल शत्रु बल जांचे॥Chauthe khappar khadag kar panche. Chhathe trishul shatru bal janche.
In the fourth a skull-bowl, in the fifth a sword, and in the sixth a trident that tests the enemy’s strength.
चौथे में खप्पर, पाँचवें में खड्ग, और छठे में त्रिशूल है जो शत्रु का बल परखता है।

सप्तम कर दमकत असि प्यारी।
शोभा अद्भुत मात तुम्हारी॥Saptam kar damkat asi pyari. Shobha adbhut mat tumhari.
In the seventh hand gleams a beautiful sword; Mother, your splendour is wondrous.
सातवें हाथ में सुंदर तलवार दमकती है; माँ, आपकी शोभा अद्भुत है।

अष्टम कर भक्तन वर दाता।
जग मनहरण रूप ये माता॥Ashtam kar bhaktan var data. Jag manharan roop ye mata.
With the eighth hand you grant boons to your devotees; Mother, this form of yours steals the world’s heart.
आठवें हाथ से आप भक्तों को वर देती हैं; माँ, आपका यह रूप जगत का मन हर लेता है।

भक्तन में अनुरक्त भवानी।
निशदिन रटें ऋषि-मुनि ज्ञानी॥Bhaktan mein anurakt Bhavani. Nishdin ratain rishi-muni gyani.
Bhavani is full of love for her devotees; seers, sages and the wise repeat your name night and day.
भवानी अपने भक्तों से प्रेम करती हैं; ऋषि, मुनि और ज्ञानी दिन-रात आपका नाम रटते हैं।

महाशक्ति अति प्रबल पुनीता।
तू ही काली तू ही सीता॥Mahashakti ati prabal punita. Tu hi Kali tu hi Sita.
Great power, mighty and pure: you are Kali and you are Sita.
आप अत्यंत प्रबल और पवित्र महाशक्ति हैं; आप ही काली हैं और आप ही सीता।

पतित तारिणी हे जग पालक।
कल्याणी पापी कुल घालक॥Patit tarini he jag palak. Kalyani papi kul ghalak.
Saviour of the fallen, sustainer of the world, gracious one, you destroy the families of the wicked.
हे पतितों को तारने वाली, जगत का पालन करने वाली कल्याणी, आप पापियों के कुल का नाश करती हैं।

शेष सुरेश न पावत पारा।
गौरी रूप धर्यो इक बारा॥Shesh Suresh na pavat para. Gauri roop dharyo ik bara.
Neither Shesha nor Indra can find your limits; once you took the form of Gauri.
शेषनाग और इंद्र भी आपका पार नहीं पाते; एक बार आपने गौरी का रूप धारण किया।

तुम समान दाता नहिं दूजा।
विधिवत करें भक्तजन पूजा॥Tum saman data nahin dooja. Vidhivat karen bhaktajan pooja.
There is no giver like you; your devotees worship you with due rites.
आपके समान दूसरा कोई दाता नहीं; भक्तजन विधि-विधान से आपकी पूजा करते हैं।

रूप भयंकर जब तुम धारा।
दुष्टदलन कीन्हेहु संहारा॥Roop bhayankar jab tum dhara. Dushtdalan kinhehu sanhara.
When you took on your terrifying form, you destroyed the hordes of the wicked.
जब आपने भयंकर रूप धारण किया, तो दुष्टों के दल का संहार कर दिया।

नाम अनेकन मात तुम्हारे।
भक्तजनों के संकट टारे॥Nam anekan mat tumhare. Bhaktajanon ke sankat tare.
Mother, you have many names, and you have turned away your devotees’ troubles.
माँ, आपके अनेक नाम हैं, और आपने भक्तों के संकट टाले हैं।

कलि के कष्ट कलेशन हरनी।
भव भय मोचन मंगल करनी॥Kali ke kasht kaleshan harani. Bhav bhay mochan mangal karani.
You remove the pains and troubles of the Kali age, free us from the fear of worldly life and bring blessings.
आप कलियुग के कष्ट और क्लेश हरने वाली, संसार के भय से छुड़ाने वाली और मंगल करने वाली हैं।

महिमा अगम वेद यश गावैं।
नारद शारद पार न पावैं॥Mahima agam Ved yash gavain. Narad Sharad par na pavain.
Your greatness is beyond reach; the Vedas sing your glory, yet even Narada and Sharada cannot reach its end.
आपकी महिमा अगम है, वेद आपका यश गाते हैं; नारद और शारदा भी उसका पार नहीं पाते।

भू पर भार बढ़्यो जब भारी।
तब तब तुम प्रकटीं महतारी॥Bhu par bhar badhyo jab bhari. Tab tab tum prakatin mahtari.
Whenever the burden on the earth grew heavy, Mother, you appeared.
जब-जब धरती पर भारी बोझ बढ़ा, तब-तब हे माँ, आप प्रकट हुईं।

आदि अनादि अभय वरदाता।
विश्वविदित भव संकट त्राता॥Adi anadi abhay vardata. Vishvavidit bhav sankat trata.
You are the first and without beginning, the giver of fearlessness, known to the world as the rescuer from life’s troubles.
आप आदि और अनादि हैं, अभय का वर देने वाली हैं, और संसार के संकटों से बचाने वाली के रूप में विश्वविख्यात हैं।

कुसमय नाम तुम्हारौ लीन्हा।
उसको सदा अभय वर दीन्हा॥Kusamay nam tumharau linha. Usko sada abhay var dinha.
Whoever took your name in hard times, you always granted them the boon of fearlessness.
जिसने बुरे समय में आपका नाम लिया, उसे आपने सदा अभय का वर दिया।

ध्यान धरें श्रुति शेष सुरेशा।
काल रूप लखि तुमरो भेषा॥Dhyan dharen shruti Shesh Suresha. Kal roop lakhi tumro bhesha.
The Vedas, Shesha and Indra meditate on you, seeing in your appearance the form of Time itself.
वेद, शेषनाग और इंद्र आपका ध्यान करते हैं, आपके वेश में काल का रूप देखकर।

कलुआ भैंरों संग तुम्हारे।
अरि हित रूप भयानक धारे॥Kalua Bhairon sang tumhare. Ari hit roop bhayanak dhare.
Kalua and Bhairav are with you, and they take on fearsome forms against your enemies.
कलुआ और भैरव आपके साथ रहते हैं, और शत्रुओं के लिए भयानक रूप धारण करते हैं।

सेवक लांगुर रहत अगारी।
चौसठ जोगन आज्ञाकारी॥Sevak Langur rahat agari. Chausath jogan agyakari.
Your servant Langur stays in front of you, and the sixty-four yoginis obey your command.
आपका सेवक लांगुर आपके आगे रहता है, और चौंसठ योगिनियाँ आपकी आज्ञाकारी हैं।

त्रेता में रघुवर हित आई।
दशकंधर की सैन नसाई॥Treta mein Raghuvar hit ai. Dashkandhar ki sain nasai.
In the Treta age you came to help Raghuvar and destroyed the army of ten-headed Ravana.
त्रेता युग में आप रघुवर की सहायता के लिए आईं और दशानन रावण की सेना का नाश किया।

खेला रण का खेल निराला।
भरा मांस-मज्जा से प्याला॥Khela ran ka khel nirala. Bhara mans-majja se pyala.
You played a strange game of battle and filled your cup with flesh and marrow.
आपने रण का निराला खेल खेला और प्याला मांस-मज्जा से भर लिया।

रौद्र रूप लखि दानव भागे।
कियौ गवन भवन निज त्यागे॥Raudra roop lakhi danav bhage. Kiyau gavan bhavan nij tyage.
Seeing your fierce form, the demons fled, abandoning their own homes.
आपका रौद्र रूप देखकर दानव भाग गए और अपने घर छोड़कर चले गए।

तब ऐसौ तामस चढ़ आयो।
स्वजन विजन को भेद भुलायो॥Tab aisau tamas chadh ayo. Svajan vijan ko bhed bhulayo.
Then such fury rose in you that you forgot the difference between your own people and strangers.
तब आप पर ऐसा क्रोध चढ़ा कि आप अपने और पराए का भेद भूल गईं।

ये बालक लखि शंकर आए।
राह रोक चरनन में धाए॥Ye balak lakhi Shankar aye. Rah rok charanan mein dhaye.
Seeing this, Shankar came, blocked your way and threw himself at your feet.
यह देखकर शंकर आए, और रास्ता रोककर आपके चरणों में लेट गए।

तब मुख जीभ निकर जो आई।
यही रूप प्रचलित है माई॥Tab mukh jibh nikar jo ai. Yahi roop prachalit hai Mai.
Then your tongue came out of your mouth, and, Mother, this is the form known everywhere.
तब आपके मुख से जीभ बाहर निकल आई; माँ, यही रूप प्रचलित है।

बाढ़्यो महिषासुर मद भारी।
पीड़ित किए सकल नर-नारी॥Badhyo Mahishasur mad bhari. Pidit kiye sakal nar-nari.
Mahishasura’s arrogance grew huge, and he tormented every man and woman.
महिषासुर का घमंड बहुत बढ़ गया, और उसने सब नर-नारियों को पीड़ित किया।

करूण पुकार सुनी भक्तन की।
पीर मिटावन हित जन-जन की॥Karun pukar suni bhaktan ki. Pir mitavan hit jan-jan ki.
You heard the pitiful cries of your devotees, and to end the pain of every person,
आपने भक्तों की करुण पुकार सुनी, और जन-जन की पीड़ा मिटाने के लिए,

तब प्रगटी निज सैन समेता।
नाम पड़ा मां महिष विजेता॥Tab pragati nij sain sameta. Nam pada Maa Mahish vijeta.
you appeared with your army, and came to be called the Mother who conquered Mahisha.
आप अपनी सेना सहित प्रकट हुईं, और आपका नाम पड़ा महिषासुर-विजेता माँ।

शुंभ निशुंभ हने छन माहीं।
तुम सम जग दूसर कोउ नाहीं॥Shumbh Nishumbh hane chhan mahin. Tum sam jag doosar kou nahin.
You slew Shumbha and Nishumbha in a moment; there is no one in the world like you.
आपने शुंभ-निशुंभ को क्षण भर में मार दिया; जगत में आपके समान दूसरा कोई नहीं।

मान मथनहारी खल दल के।
सदा सहायक भक्त विकल के॥Man mathanhari khal dal ke. Sada sahayak bhakt vikal ke.
You crush the pride of the hordes of the wicked and always help the distressed devotee.
आप दुष्टों के दल का अभिमान चूर करने वाली और व्याकुल भक्तों की सदा सहायक हैं।

दीन विहीन करैं नित सेवा।
पावैं मनवांछित फल मेवा॥Deen vihin karain nit seva. Pavain manvanchhit phal meva.
The poor and helpless who serve you daily receive the fruits they long for.
जो दीन-हीन नित्य आपकी सेवा करते हैं, वे मनचाहे फल और मेवे पाते हैं।

संकट में जो सुमिरन करहीं।
उनके कष्ट मातु तुम हरहीं॥Sankat mein jo sumiran karahin. Unke kasht matu tum harahin.
Mother, you take away the suffering of those who remember you in times of trouble.
जो संकट में आपका स्मरण करते हैं, माँ, आप उनके कष्ट हर लेती हैं।

प्रेम सहित जो कीरति गावैं।
भव बन्धन सों मुक्ति पावैं॥Prem sahit jo kirati gavain. Bhav bandhan son mukti pavain.
Those who sing your glory with love are freed from the bonds of worldly life.
जो प्रेम से आपकी कीर्ति गाते हैं, वे संसार के बंधनों से मुक्ति पाते हैं।

काली चालीसा जो पढ़हीं।
स्वर्गलोक बिनु बंधन चढ़हीं॥Kali Chalisa jo padhahin. Swarglok binu bandhan chadhahin.
Those who read the Kali Chalisa rise to heaven, free of all bonds.
जो काली चालीसा पढ़ते हैं, वे बिना बंधन के स्वर्गलोक जाते हैं।

दया दृष्टि हेरौ जगदम्बा।
केहि कारण मां कियौ विलम्बा॥Daya drishti herau Jagdamba. Kehi karan Maa kiyau vilamba.
Look on me with kindness, Jagadamba. Why, Mother, have you delayed?
हे जगदंबा, दया-दृष्टि से देखिए। माँ, आपने किस कारण देर की?

करहु मातु भक्तन रखवाली।
जयति जयति काली कंकाली॥Karahu matu bhaktan rakhvali. Jayati jayati Kali Kankali.
Mother, guard your devotees. Victory, victory to Kali, adorned with bones.
माँ, भक्तों की रखवाली कीजिए। कंकाली काली की जय, जय!

सेवक दीन अनाथ अनारी।
भक्तिभाव युति शरण तुम्हारी॥Sevak deen anath anari. Bhaktibhav yuti sharan tumhari.
Your servant is poor, helpless and unskilled, but with devotion he has come to your refuge.
आपका सेवक दीन, अनाथ और अनाड़ी है, पर भक्ति-भाव से आपकी शरण में आया है।

प्रेम सहित जो करे, काली चालीसा पाठ।
तिनकी पूरन कामना, होय सकल जग ठाठ॥Prem sahit jo kare, Kali Chalisa path. Tinki pooran kamna, hoy sakal jag thath.
Whoever recites the Kali Chalisa with love has their wishes fulfilled and enjoys every comfort the world can give.
जो प्रेम से काली चालीसा का पाठ करता है, उसकी कामनाएँ पूरी होती हैं और उसे संसार के सब ठाठ मिलते हैं।
