बंशी शोभित कर मधुर, नील जलद तन श्याम।
अरुण अधर जनु बिम्बफल, नयन कमल अभिराम॥Banshi shobhit kar madhur, neel jalad tan Shyam. Arun adhar janu bimbaphal, nayan kamal abhiram.
A sweet flute graces your hand and your dark body is like a blue rain cloud; your red lips are like bimba fruit and your lotus eyes are lovely.
हाथ में मधुर बाँसुरी शोभा देती है, शरीर नीले बादल जैसा श्याम है; लाल होंठ मानो बिंबफल हैं और कमल जैसे नेत्र मनोहर हैं।

पूर्ण इन्द्र, अरविन्द मुख, पीताम्बर शुभ साज।
जय मनमोहन मदन छवि, कृष्णचन्द्र महाराज॥Poorn Indra, Aravind mukh, Pitambar shubh saj. Jai Manmohan Madan chhavi, Krishnachandra Maharaj.
Your lotus face shines like the full moon, and you are finely dressed in yellow silk. Victory to Manmohan, enchanter of hearts, lovely as Kamadeva, King Krishnachandra.
पूर्ण चंद्रमा जैसा कमल-मुख है और पीतांबर का सुंदर श्रृंगार है। कामदेव जैसी छवि वाले मनमोहन महाराज कृष्णचंद्र की जय।

जय यदुनन्दन जय जगवन्दन।
जय वसुदेव देवकी नन्दन॥Jai Yadunandan jai jagvandan. Jai Vasudev Devaki nandan.
Victory to the joy of the Yadus, victory to the one the world worships. Victory to the son of Vasudeva and Devaki.
यदुनंदन की जय, जगत-वंदित की जय। वसुदेव-देवकी के नंदन की जय।

जय यशुदा सुत नन्द दुलारे।
जय प्रभु भक्तन के दृग तारे॥Jai Yashuda sut Nand dulare. Jai Prabhu bhaktan ke drig tare.
Victory to Yashoda’s son, Nanda’s darling. Victory to the Lord, the apple of his devotees’ eyes.
यशोदा के पुत्र, नंद के दुलारे की जय। भक्तों की आँखों के तारे प्रभु की जय।

जय नट-नागर नाग नथैया।
कृष्ण कन्हैया धेनु चरैया॥Jai Nat-nagar nag nathaiya. Krishna Kanhaiya dhenu charaiya.
Victory to the clever dancer who tamed the serpent, Krishna Kanhaiya, who grazes the cows.
नाग को नाथने वाले चतुर नटनागर की जय; गायें चराने वाले कृष्ण कन्हैया की जय।

पुनि नख पर प्रभु गिरिवर धारो।
आओ दीनन कष्ट निवारो॥Puni nakh par Prabhu girivar dharo. Ao deenan kasht nivaro.
Lord, lift the mountain on your fingertip once again: come and remove the suffering of the helpless.
हे प्रभु, फिर से नख पर पर्वत उठाइए; आइए और दीनों के कष्ट दूर कीजिए।

वंशी मधुर अधर धरि टेरौ।
होवे पूर्ण विनय यह मेरौ॥Vanshi madhur adhar dhari terau. Hove poorn vinay yah merau.
Put your sweet flute to your lips and play your call, so that this prayer of mine is fulfilled.
मधुर बाँसुरी होंठों पर रखकर तान छेड़िए, ताकि मेरी यह विनती पूरी हो।

आओ हरि पुनि माखन चाखो।
आज लाज भारत की राखो॥Ao Hari puni makhan chakho. Aj laj Bharat ki rakho.
Come, Hari, taste butter once again, and protect the honour of Bharat today.
आइए हरि, फिर से माखन चखिए, और आज भारत की लाज रखिए।

गोल कपोल, चिबुक अरुणारे।
मृदु मुस्कान मोहिनी डारे॥Gol kapol, chibuk arunare. Mridu muskan mohini dare.
Round cheeks and a rosy chin; your gentle smile casts a spell.
गोल गाल, लाल ठोड़ी, और कोमल मुस्कान जो सबको मोह लेती है।

राजित राजिव नयन विशाला।
मोर मुकुट वैजन्ती माला॥Rajit rajiv nayan vishala. Mor mukut Vaijanti mala.
Your large lotus eyes shine; you wear a crown of peacock feathers and a garland of vaijayanti flowers.
बड़े-बड़े कमल जैसे नेत्र शोभा देते हैं; सिर पर मोर-मुकुट और गले में वैजयंती माला है।

कुण्डल श्रवण, पीत पट आछे।
कटि किंकिणी काछनी काछे॥Kundal shravan, peet pat achhe. Kati kinkini kachhani kachhe.
Earrings in your ears, a fine yellow cloth, and a belt of little bells over the garment tucked at your waist.
कानों में कुंडल, सुंदर पीला वस्त्र, और कमर में घुँघरूदार करधनी के साथ कसी हुई काछनी है।

नील जलज सुन्दर तनु सोहे।
छवि लखि, सुर नर मुनिमन मोहे॥Neel jalaj sundar tanu sohe. Chhavi lakhi, sur nar muniman mohe.
Your beautiful body glows like a blue lotus; seeing your beauty, gods, humans and sages are enchanted.
नीले कमल जैसा सुंदर शरीर शोभा देता है; आपकी छवि देखकर देवता, मनुष्य और मुनि मोहित हो जाते हैं।

मस्तक तिलक, अलक घुँघराले।
आओ कृष्ण बांसुरी वाले॥Mastak tilak, alak ghunghrale. Ao Krishna bansuri vale.
A tilak on your forehead and curly locks: come, Krishna, player of the flute.
माथे पर तिलक और घुँघराले बाल; आइए, बाँसुरी वाले कृष्ण।

करि पय पान, पूतनहि तार्यो।
अका बका कागासुर मार्यो॥Kari pay pan, Putanahi taryo. Aka Baka Kagasur maryo.
Drinking her milk, you set Putana free; you killed Agha, Baka and the crow demon Kagasura.
दूध पीकर आपने पूतना को तार दिया, और अघासुर, बकासुर और कागासुर को मारा।

मधुवन जलत अगिन जब ज्वाला।
भै शीतल लखतहिं नन्दलाला॥Madhuvan jalat agin jab jvala. Bhai sheetal lakhatahin Nandlala.
When the forest of Madhuvan was burning in flames, it turned cool the moment Nandalala looked at it.
जब मधुवन आग की लपटों में जल रहा था, नंदलाला के देखते ही वह शीतल हो गया।

सुरपति जब ब्रज चढ़्यो रिसाई।
मूसर धार वारि वर्षाई॥Surpati jab Braj chadhyo risai. Moosar dhar vari varshai.
When Indra, king of the gods, angrily attacked Braj, he poured down rain in torrents.
जब देवराज इंद्र क्रोधित होकर ब्रज पर चढ़ आए, तो उन्होंने मूसलाधार वर्षा की।

लगत लगत ब्रज चहन बहायो।
गोवर्धन नखधारि बचायो॥Lagat lagat Braj chahan bahayo. Govardhan nakhdhari bachayo.
Just as Braj was about to be swept away, you held Govardhan on your fingernail and saved it.
जब ब्रज बहने ही वाला था, तब आपने नख पर गोवर्धन उठाकर उसे बचा लिया।

लखि यसुदा मन भ्रम अधिकाई।
मुख महं चौदह भुवन दिखाई॥Lakhi Yasuda man bhram adhikai. Mukh mahan chaudah bhuvan dikhai.
Seeing Yashoda’s mind full of doubt, you showed her the fourteen worlds inside your mouth.
यशोदा के मन में भ्रम बढ़ता देखकर आपने अपने मुख में चौदह भुवन दिखा दिए।

दुष्ट कंस अति उधम मचायो।
कोटि कमल जब फूल मंगायो॥Dusht Kans ati udham machayo. Koti kamal jab phool mangayo.
Wicked Kamsa caused great trouble when he demanded millions of lotus flowers.
दुष्ट कंस ने बहुत उधम मचाया, जब उसने करोड़ों कमल के फूल मँगवाए।

नाथि कालियहिं तब तुम लीन्हें।
चरण चिह्न दै निर्भय कीन्हें॥Nathi Kaliyahin tab tum linhen. Charan chinh dai nirbhay kinhen.
Then you tamed Kaliya, and by marking him with your footprints made him free of fear.
तब आपने कालिय नाग को नाथ लिया, और उसे अपने चरण-चिह्न देकर निर्भय कर दिया।

करि गोपिन संग रास विलासा।
सबकी पूरण करी अभिलाषा॥Kari gopin sang Ras vilasa. Sabki pooran kari abhilasha.
You played the joyous Ras dance with the gopis and fulfilled every one of their longings.
आपने गोपियों के साथ रास-विलास किया और सबकी अभिलाषा पूरी की।

केतिक महा असुर संहार्यो।
कंसहि केस पकड़ि दै मार्यो॥Ketik maha asur sanharyo. Kansahi kes pakadi dai maryo.
You destroyed many great demons, and seized Kamsa by the hair and struck him down.
आपने कितने ही बड़े असुरों का संहार किया, और कंस को बाल पकड़कर मार डाला।

मात-पिता की बन्दि छुड़ाई।
उग्रसेन कहँ राज दिलाई॥Mat-pita ki bandi chhudai. Ugrasen kahan raj dilai.
You freed your mother and father from prison, and restored the kingdom to Ugrasena.
आपने माता-पिता को कैद से छुड़ाया, और उग्रसेन को राज्य दिलाया।

महि से मृतक छहों सुत लायो।
मातु देवकी शोक मिटायो॥Mahi se mritak chhahon sut layo. Matu Devaki shok mitayo.
You brought back Devaki’s six dead sons and ended your mother’s grief.
आप देवकी माता के छह मृत पुत्रों को वापस ले आए और उनका शोक मिटाया।

भौमासुर मुर दैत्य संहारी।
लाये षट दश सहसकुमारी॥Bhaumasur Mur daitya sanhari. Laye shat das sahas kumari.
You slew the demons Bhaumasura and Mura, and brought home the sixteen thousand princesses they held.
आपने भौमासुर और मुर दैत्य का संहार किया और सोलह हजार राजकुमारियों को छुड़ा लाए।

दै भीमहिं तृण चीर सहारा।
जरासिंधु राक्षस कहँ मारा॥Dai Bhimahin trin chir sahara. Jarasindhu rakshas kahan mara.
By splitting a blade of grass as a sign to Bhima, you had the demon Jarasandha killed.
भीम को तिनका चीरकर इशारा देकर आपने जरासंध राक्षस को मरवाया।

असुर बकासुर आदिक मार्यो।
भक्तन के तब कष्ट निवार्यो॥Asur Bakasur adik maryo. Bhaktan ke tab kasht nivaryo.
You killed Bakasura and other demons, and so removed the suffering of your devotees.
आपने बकासुर आदि असुरों को मारा, और इस तरह भक्तों के कष्ट दूर किए।

दीन सुदामा के दुःख टार्यो।
तंदुल तीन मूंठ मुख डार्यो॥Deen Sudama ke dukh taryo. Tandul teen moonth mukh daryo.
You took away poor Sudama’s sorrows, eating handfuls of the rice he brought.
आपने गरीब सुदामा के दुःख दूर किए, उनके लाए चावल की मुट्ठियाँ मुँह में डालकर।

प्रेम के साग विदुर घर मांगे।
दुर्योधन के मेवा त्यागे॥Prem ke sag Vidur ghar mange. Duryodhan ke meva tyage.
You asked for simple greens cooked with love at Vidura’s house, and turned down Duryodhana’s rich delicacies.
आपने विदुर के घर प्रेम से बना साग माँगा, और दुर्योधन के मेवे ठुकरा दिए।

लखी प्रेम की महिमा भारी।
ऐसे श्याम दीन हितकारी॥Lakhi prem ki mahima bhari. Aise Shyam deen hitkari.
See how great the power of love is: such is Shyam, friend of the humble.
प्रेम की भारी महिमा देखिए; ऐसे हैं श्याम, दीनों का हित करने वाले।

भारत के पारथ रथ हाँके।
लिये चक्र कर नहिं बल थाके॥Bharat ke Parath rath hanke. Liye chakra kar nahin bal thake.
In the Bharata war you drove Arjuna’s chariot, and with the discus in hand your strength never tired.
महाभारत में आपने अर्जुन का रथ हाँका; हाथ में चक्र लिए आपका बल कभी नहीं थका।

निज गीता के ज्ञान सुनाये।
भक्तन हृदय सुधा वर्षाये॥Nij Gita ke gyan sunaye. Bhaktan hriday sudha varshaye.
You spoke the wisdom of your Gita, raining nectar into your devotees’ hearts.
आपने अपनी गीता का ज्ञान सुनाया और भक्तों के हृदय में अमृत बरसाया।

मीरा थी ऐसी मतवाली।
विष पी गई बजाकर ताली॥Meera thi aisi matvali. Vish pi gai bajakar tali.
Meera was so lost in love that she drank poison while clapping her hands in joy.
मीरा ऐसी मतवाली थीं कि ताली बजाते हुए विष पी गईं।

राना भेजा सांप पिटारी।
शालिग्राम बने बनवारी॥Rana bheja sanp pitari. Shaligram bane Banvari.
The Rana sent her a snake in a basket, and Banwari, Krishna of the forests, became a Shaligram stone.
राणा ने पिटारी में साँप भेजा, तो बनवारी शालिग्राम बन गए।

निज माया तुम विधिहिं दिखायो।
उर ते संशय सकल मिटायो॥Nij maya tum vidhihin dikhayo. Ur te sanshay sakal mitayo.
You showed Brahma your own power of illusion and wiped all doubt from his heart.
आपने ब्रह्मा को अपनी माया दिखाई और उनके हृदय से सारे संशय मिटा दिए।

तब शत निन्दा करी तत्काला।
जीवन मुक्त भयो शिशुपाला॥Tab shat ninda kari tatkala. Jivan mukt bhayo Shishupala.
When Shishupala had insulted you a hundred times, he was at once slain and set free.
जब शिशुपाल ने सौ बार निंदा की, तो तुरंत ही वह जीवन से मुक्त हो गया।

जबहिं द्रौपदी टेर लगाई।
दीनानाथ लाज अब जाई॥Jabahin Draupadi ter lagai. Deenanath laj ab jai.
When Draupadi cried out, “Lord of the helpless, my honour is being lost now,”
जब द्रौपदी ने पुकारा, “हे दीनानाथ, अब मेरी लाज जा रही है,”

तुरतहि वसन बने नन्दलाला।
बढ़े चीर भै अरि मुँह काला॥Turatahi vasan bane Nandlala. Badhe chir bhai ari munh kala.
Nandalala at once became her garment; the sari grew endlessly and her enemies were shamed.
नंदलाला तुरंत वस्त्र बन गए; चीर बढ़ता गया और शत्रुओं का मुँह काला हुआ।

अस अनाथ के नाथ कन्हैया।
डूबत भंवर बचावत नैया॥As anath ke nath Kanhaiya. Doobat bhanvar bachavat naiya.
Such is Kanhaiya, protector of those who have no one, who saves the boat sinking in the whirlpool.
ऐसे हैं अनाथों के नाथ कन्हैया, जो भँवर में डूबती नैया को बचा लेते हैं।

सुन्दरदास आस उर धारी।
दया दृष्टि कीजै बनवारी॥Sundardas as ur dhari. Daya drishti kije Banvari.
Sundardas holds hope in his heart: Banwari, look on me with kindness.
सुंदरदास मन में आशा लेकर कहते हैं: हे बनवारी, दया-दृष्टि कीजिए।

नाथ सकल मम कुमति निवारो।
क्षमहु बेगि अपराध हमारो॥Nath sakal mam kumati nivaro. Kshamahu begi apradh hamaro.
Lord, remove all my wrong thinking, and quickly forgive our faults.
हे नाथ, मेरी सारी कुमति दूर कीजिए, और जल्दी से हमारे अपराध क्षमा कीजिए।

खोलो पट अब दर्शन दीजै।
बोलो कृष्ण कन्हैया की जै॥Kholo pat ab darshan dije. Bolo Krishna Kanhaiya ki jai.
Open the doors and give us your vision now. Say: victory to Krishna Kanhaiya!
अब पट खोलिए और दर्शन दीजिए। बोलो कृष्ण कन्हैया की जय!

यह चालीसा कृष्ण का, पाठ करै उर धारि।
अष्ट सिद्धि नवनिधि फल, लहै पदारथ चारि॥Yah Chalisa Krishna ka, path karai ur dhari. Asht siddhi navnidhi phal, lahai padarath chari.
Whoever recites this Krishna Chalisa, holding it in their heart, gains the eight powers, the nine treasures and the four aims of life.
जो कृष्ण की यह चालीसा हृदय में धारण करके पढ़ता है, वह आठ सिद्धियाँ, नौ निधियाँ और चारों पदार्थ पाता है।
