हिरण्याक्षे पोत्रिप्रवरवपुषा देव भवता हते शोकक्रोधग्लपितधृतिरेतस्य सहजः।
हिरण्यप्रारम्भः कशिपुरमरारातिसदसि प्रतिज्ञामातेने तव किल वधार्थं मुररिपो॥Hiranyakshe potripravaravapusha deva bhavata hate shokakrodhaglapitadhritiretasya sahajah, hiranyaprarambhah kashipuramararatisadasi pratijnamatene tava kila vadhartham muraripo.
When you, Lord, in the form of the mighty boar, killed Hiranyaksha, his brother Hiranyakashipu, his composure worn down by grief and rage, vowed in the assembly of demons to kill you, O enemy of Mura.
हे देव, जब आपने श्रेष्ठ वराह रूप में हिरण्याक्ष को मारा, तो शोक और क्रोध से धैर्य खो बैठे उसके भाई हिरण्यकशिपु ने असुरों की सभा में, हे मुरारी, आपको मारने की प्रतिज्ञा की।

विधातारं घोरं स खलु तपसित्वा नचिरतः पुरः साक्षात्कुर्वन्सुरनरमृगाद्यैरनिधनम्।
वरं लब्ध्वा दृप्तो जगदिह भवन्नायकमिदं परिक्षुन्दन्निन्द्रादहरत दिवं त्वामगणयन्॥Vidhataram ghoram sa khalu tapasitva nachiratah purah sakshatkurvansuranaramrigadyairanidhanam, varam labdhva dripto jagadiha bhavannayakamidam parikshundannindradaharata divam tvamaganayan.
After fierce austerities he soon saw Brahma face to face and won the boon that no god, human or beast could kill him. Swollen with pride, he tormented this world of which you are lord, seized heaven from Indra, and paid you no heed.
घोर तप करके उसने जल्दी ही ब्रह्मा के साक्षात दर्शन किए और यह वर पाया कि देवता, मनुष्य, पशु आदि कोई उसे न मार सके। घमंड में चूर होकर उसने आपके द्वारा पालित इस जगत को सताया, इन्द्र से स्वर्ग छीन लिया और आपकी परवाह नहीं की।

निहन्तुं त्वां भूयस्तव पदमवाप्तस्य च रिपोर्बहिर्दृष्टेरन्तर्दधिथ हृदये सूक्ष्मवपुषा।
नदन्नुच्चैस्तत्राप्यखिलभुवनान्ते च मृगयन् भिया यातं मत्वा स खलु जितकाशी निववृते॥Nihantum tvam bhuyastava padamavaptasya cha riporbahirdrishterantardadhitha hridaye sukshmavapusha, nadannuchchaistatrapyakhilabhuvanante cha mrigayan bhiya yatam matva sa khalu jitakashi nivavrite.
When that enemy, whose eyes looked only outward, came to your realm to kill you, you hid in a subtle form inside his own heart. Roaring, he searched there and to the ends of all the worlds, then, thinking you had fled in fear, went home boasting of victory.
जब केवल बाहर देखने वाला वह शत्रु आपको मारने आपके धाम पहुँचा, तो आप सूक्ष्म रूप से उसी के हृदय में छिप गए। वह ज़ोर से गरजता हुआ वहाँ और सारे लोकों के छोर तक ढूँढता रहा, फिर यह सोचकर कि आप डरकर भाग गए, जीत का घमंड करता लौट गया।

ततोऽस्य प्रह्लादः समजनि सुतो गर्भवसतौ मुनेर्वीणापाणेरधिगतभवद्भक्तिमहिमा।
स वै जात्या दैत्यः शिशुरपि समेत्य त्वयि रतिं गतस्त्वद्भक्तानां वरद परमोदाहरणताम्॥Tatosya prahladah samajani suto garbhavasatau munervinapaneradhigatabhavadbhaktimahima, sa vai jatya daityah shishurapi sametya tvayi ratim gatastvadbhaktanam varada paramodaharanatam.
Then Prahlada was born to him as a son. In the womb he had learned the greatness of devotion to you from the sage Narada, vina in hand. Though a demon by birth and only a child, he came to love you and became the finest example of your devotees, giver of boons.
फिर उसके यहाँ प्रह्लाद पुत्र रूप में जन्मे, जिन्होंने गर्भ में ही वीणाधारी नारद मुनि से आपकी भक्ति की महिमा जान ली थी। जन्म से दैत्य और बालक होते हुए भी उन्होंने आपसे प्रेम किया, और हे वरदाता, आपके भक्तों का सबसे बड़ा उदाहरण बन गए।

सुरारीणां हास्यं तव चरणदास्यं निजसुते स दृष्ट्वा दुष्टात्मा गुरुभिरशिशिक्षच्चिरममुम्।
गुरुप्रोक्तं चासाविदमिदमभद्राय दृढमित्यपाकुर्वन् सर्वं तव चरणभक्त्यैव ववृधे॥Surarinam hasyam tava charanadasyam nijasute sa drishtva dushtatma gurubhirashishikshachchiramamum, guruproktam chasavidamidamabhadraya dridhamityapakurvan sarvam tava charanabhaktyaiva vavridhe.
Seeing in his own son a devotion to your feet that the demons laughed at, that wicked one had teachers instruct him for a long time. But the boy firmly rejected everything they taught as harmful, and grew only in devotion to your feet.
अपने ही पुत्र में आपके चरणों की भक्ति, जिस पर असुर हँसते थे, देखकर उस दुष्ट ने गुरुओं से उसे लंबे समय तक शिक्षा दिलवाई। पर बालक ने गुरुओं की सब बातें अहितकर मानकर दृढ़ता से ठुकरा दीं, और केवल आपके चरणों की भक्ति में बढ़ता गया।

अधीतेषु श्रेष्ठं किमिति परिपृष्टेऽथ तनये भवद्भक्तिं वर्यामभिगदति पर्याकुलधृतिः।
गुरुभ्यो रोषित्वा सहजमतिरस्येत्यभिविदन् वधोपायानस्मिन् व्यतनुत भवत्पादशरणे॥Adhiteshu shreshtham kimiti pariprishtetha tanaye bhavadbhaktim varyamabhigadati paryakuladhritih, gurubhyo roshitva sahajamatirasyetyabhividan vadhopayanasmin vyatanuta bhavatpadasharane.
When asked what was best of all he had learned, the son declared devotion to you the finest. His father lost his temper and raged at the teachers, but seeing it was the boy’s own nature, he devised ways to kill him, who had taken refuge at your feet.
जब पुत्र से पूछा गया कि पढ़ी हुई चीज़ों में सबसे श्रेष्ठ क्या है, तो उन्होंने आपकी भक्ति को श्रेष्ठ बताया। पिता का धैर्य टूट गया, वह गुरुओं पर क्रोधित हुआ, पर यह जानकर कि यह बालक का स्वभाव ही है, उसने आपके चरणों की शरण लिए उस बालक को मारने के उपाय रचे।

स शूलैराविद्धः सुबहु मथितो दिग्गजगणैर्महासर्पैर्दष्टोऽप्यनशनगराहारविधुतः।
गिरीन्द्रावक्षिप्तोऽप्यहह परमात्मन्नयि विभो त्वयि न्यस्तात्मत्वात्किमपि न निपीडामभजत॥Sa shulairaviddhah subahu mathito diggajaganairmahasarpairdashtopyanashanagaraharavidhutah, girindravakshiptopyahaha paramatmannayi vibho tvayi nyastatmatvatkimapi na nipidamabhajata.
Pierced with spears, trampled by the elephants of the directions, bitten by great serpents, starved and fed poison, even thrown from a great mountain, still, Supreme Self, all-pervading Lord, because he had given himself to you, he felt no pain at all.
भालों से बेधे गए, दिग्गजों से बुरी तरह रौंदे गए, बड़े साँपों से डसे गए, भूखे रखे गए और ज़हर खिलाया गया, बड़े पर्वत से फेंके गए, फिर भी, हे परमात्मा, हे विभु, आपको अपना सब कुछ सौंप देने के कारण उन्हें ज़रा भी पीड़ा नहीं हुई।

ततः शङ्काविष्टः स पुनरतिदुष्टोऽस्य जनको गुरूक्त्या तद्गेहे किल वरुणपाशैस्तमरुणत्।
गुरोश्चासान्निध्ये स पुनरनुगान्दैत्यतनयान् भवद्भक्तेस्तत्त्वं परममपि विज्ञानमशिषत्॥Tatah shankavishtah sa punaratidushtosya janako guruktya tadgehe kila varunapashaistamarunat, guroshchasannidhye sa punaranugandaityatanayan bhavadbhaktestattvam paramamapi vijnanamashishat.
Then his wicked father, now uneasy, on the teachers’ advice had him bound with Varuna’s nooses in their house. When the teachers were away, the boy taught the other demon children the truth of devotion to you and the highest knowledge.
तब शंका से भरे उस अत्यंत दुष्ट पिता ने गुरुओं की सलाह पर उन्हें गुरुओं के घर में वरुण-पाश से बँधवा दिया। गुरुओं के न होने पर प्रह्लाद ने साथी दैत्य बालकों को आपकी भक्ति का तत्त्व और परम ज्ञान सिखाया।

पिता शृण्वन्बालप्रकरमखिलं त्वत्स्तुतिपरं रुषान्धः प्राहैनं कुलहतक कस्ते बलमिति।
बलं मे वैकुण्ठस्तव च जगतां चापि स बलं स एव त्रैलोक्यं सकलमिति धीरोऽयमगदीत्॥Pita shrinvanbalaprakaramakhilam tvatstutiparam rushandhah prahainam kulahataka kaste balamiti, balam me vaikunthastava cha jagatam chapi sa balam sa eva trailokyam sakalamiti dhiroyamagadit.
Hearing all the boys absorbed in praising you, the father, blind with rage, said to him: ‘Ruin of our clan, who is your strength?’ The steadfast boy answered: ‘My strength is the Lord of Vaikuntha; he is your strength too, and the strength of all the worlds; he alone is the three worlds and all there is.’
सारे बालकों को आपकी स्तुति में लगा सुनकर क्रोध से अंधे पिता ने उनसे कहा: ‘कुल के नाशक, तेरा बल कौन है?’ उस धीर बालक ने कहा: ‘मेरा बल वैकुण्ठनाथ हैं; वही आपका भी बल हैं और सारे लोकों का भी; वही तीनों लोक और सब कुछ हैं।’

अरे क्वासौ क्वासौ सकलजगदात्मा हरिरिति प्रभिन्ते स्म स्तम्भं चलितकरवालो दितिसुतः।
अतः पश्चाद्विष्णो न हि वदितुमीशोऽस्मि सहसा कृपात्मन् विश्वात्मन् पवनपुरवासिन् मृडय माम्॥Are kvasau kvasau sakalajagadatma haririti prabhinte sma stambham chalitakaravalo ditisutah, atah pashchadvishno na hi vaditumishosmi sahasa kripatman vishvatman pavanapuravasin mridaya mam.
‘Hey! Where is he, where is this Hari, the soul of the whole world?’ Shouting this, sword waving, the son of Diti smashed the pillar. Vishnu, what came after I cannot rush to describe. Compassionate one, soul of the universe, who dwell in Guruvayur, be gracious to me.
‘अरे! कहाँ है, कहाँ है वह सारे जगत की आत्मा हरि?’ ऐसा चिल्लाते हुए तलवार घुमाकर दिति के पुत्र ने खंभा तोड़ दिया। हे विष्णु, उसके बाद क्या हुआ, यह मैं जल्दी में नहीं कह सकता। हे कृपालु, हे विश्वात्मा, गुरुवायुर में बसने वाले, मुझ पर कृपा करो।
