Atitya balyam jagatam pate tvamupetya paugandavayo manojnam, upekshya vatsavanamutsavena pravartatha goganapalanayam.
Lord of the worlds, leaving infancy behind and reaching the charming age of boyhood, you gave up tending the calves and joyfully took up herding the cows.
Upakramasyanugunaiva seyam marutpuradhisha tava pravrittih, gotraparitranakritevatirnastadeva devarabhathastada yat.
This new task, Lord of Guruvayur, fits well with your purpose: you came down to protect the earth and the cows, and that is exactly what you began then, O God.

Kadapi ramena samam vanante vanashriyam vikshya charan sukhena, shridamanamnah svasakhasya vacha modadaga dhenukakananam tvam.
Once, wandering happily at the forest’s edge with Balarama, admiring the forest’s beauty, you went joyfully to the Dhenuka forest at the word of your friend Shridama.
Uttalatalinivahe tvaduktya balena dhutetha balena dorbhyam, mriduh kharashchabhyapatatpurastat phalotkaro dhenukadanavopi.
In that grove of tall palms, at your word, Balarama shook the trees hard with both arms; down in front of you came a heap of soft and hard fruit, and the demon Dhenuka too.
Samudyato dhainukapalaneham katham vadham dhainukamadya kurve, itiva matva dhruvamagrajena suraughayoddharamajighatastvam.
As if thinking, “I am devoted to protecting the cows (dhenu); how can I kill Dhenuka today?”, you surely let your elder brother kill that warrior who fought the hosts of gods.
Tadiyabhrityanapi jambukatvenopagatanagrajasamyutastvam, jambuphalaniva tada nirasthastaleshu khelan bhagavan nirasthah.
His followers too, who came as jackals, you and your brother tossed up onto the palm trees like rose-apples, playing all the while, Lord.
Vinighnati tvayyatha jambukaugham sanamakatvadvarunastadanim, bhayakulo jambukanamadheyam shrutiprasiddham vyadhiteti manye.
As you were killing that pack of jackals (jambuka), I imagine Varuna, who bears the same name Jambuka in the Vedas, was seized with fear.
Tavavatarasya phalam murare sanjatamadyeti surairnutastvam, satyam phalam jatamiheti hasi balaih samam talaphalanyabhunkthah.
“Murari, today the fruit of your incarnation has come!” the gods praised you. “True, the fruit has come right here!” you laughed, and ate the palm fruits with the boys.
Madhudravasrunti brihanti tani phalani medobharabhrinti bhuktva, triptaishcha driptairbhavanam phalaugham vahadbhiragah khalu balakaistvam.
After eating those big fruits, dripping with honey-sweet juice and rich with pulp, you went home with the boys, full and proud, carrying loads of fruit.
Hato hato dhenuka ityupetya phalanyadadbhirmadhurani lokaih, jayeti jiveti nuto vibho tvam marutpuradhishvara pahi rogat.
“Dhenuka is dead, dead!” People came, ate the sweet fruits, and praised you, all-pervading Lord, with “Victory! Long life!” Lord of Guruvayur, protect me from illness.
