Iti tvayi rasakulam ramitavallabhe vallavah kadapi puramambikakamiturambikakanane, sametya bhavata samam nishi nishevya divyotsavam sukham sushupuragrasidvrajapamugranagastada.

While you, full of love, delighted your beloveds, the cowherds once went with you to the Ambika forest of Shiva, Ambika’s lord, and celebrated a divine festival at night; as they slept happily, a fierce serpent seized Nanda, the chief of Vraja.

Samunmukhamatholmukairabhihatepi tasminbaladamunchati bhavatpade nyapati pahi pahiti taih, tada khalu pada bhavan samupagamya pasparsha tam babhau sa cha nijam tanum samupasadya vaidyadharim.

Though they beat it with burning torches, it held on by force; they fell at your feet crying, Save us, save us. Then you came and touched it with your foot, and it shone, regaining its own form as a Vidyadhara.

Sudarshanadhara prabho nanu sudarshanakhyosmyaham munin kvachidapahasam ta iha mam vyadhurvahasam, bhavatpadasamarpanadamalatam gatosmityasau stuvan nijapadam yayau vrajapadam cha gopa muda.

O Lord who bears the Sudarshana discus, I am Sudarshana. Once I mocked some sages, and they made me a serpent here. By offering myself at your feet I have become pure. Praising you so, he went to his own realm, and the cowherds joyfully went home to Vraja.

Kadapi khalu sirina viharati tvayi strijanairjahara dhanadanugah sa kila shankhachudobalah, atidrutamanudrutastamatha muktanarijanam rurojitha shiromanim halabhrite cha tasyadadah.

Once, as you and Balarama were sporting with the women, Shankhachuda, a follower of Kubera, carried the women off. Chasing him swiftly, you freed the women, struck him down, and gave his crest jewel to Balarama.

Dineshu cha suhrijjanaih saha vaneshu lilaparam manobhavamanoharam rasitavenunadamritam, bhavantamamaridrishamamritaparanadayinam vichintya kimu nalapan virahatapita gopikah.

In the daytime, burning with separation, how could the gopis not speak of you, playing in the forests with your friends, more charming than the god of love, your flute pouring out nectar, a feast of nectar for the eyes of heavenly women?

Bhojarajabhritakastvatha kashchitkashtadushtapathadrishtirarishtah, nishthurakritirapashthuninadastishthate sma bhavate vrisharupi.

Then Arishta, a servant of Kamsa, the Bhoja king, his eyes set on cruel and wicked ways, harsh in form and with a terrible bellow, stood before you in the form of a bull.

Shakvarotha jagatidhritihari murtimesha brihatim pradadhanah, panktimashu parighurnya pashunam chhandasam nidhimavapa bhavantam.

In a play on the names of Vedic metres: this mighty bull, robbing the world of its courage, took on a huge form, quickly scattered the rows of cattle, and came at you, the treasury of the metres.

Tungashringamukhamashvabhiyantam sangrihayya rabhasadabhiyam tam, bhadrarupamapi daityamabhadram mardayannamadayah suralokam.

As it charged swiftly with its tall horns lowered, you seized it fearlessly and with force, and crushing the demon, ill-omened though in the form of a noble bull, you delighted the world of the gods.

Chitramadya bhagavan vrishaghatatsusthirajani vrishasthitirurvyam, vardhate cha vrishachetasi bhuyanmoda ityabhinutosi suraistvam.

The gods praised you, playing on vrisha, which means bull, dharma and Indra: Wonderful, O Lord! By the slaying of the bull, dharma now stands firm on earth, and great joy grows in Indra’s heart.

Aukshakani paridhavata duram vikshyatamayamihokshavibhedi, itthamattahasitaih saha gopairgehagastvamava vatapuresha.

Run far away, you bulls! Look, the bull-slayer is here! With the cowherds laughing and joking like this, you went home. O Lord of Guruvayur, protect me.
