Bolo Ma Ami Darai Kotha

Bolo Ma ami darai kotha. Amar keho nai Shonkori hetha.

Tell me, Mother, where can I stand? I have no one here, Shankari.

Mar shohage baper ador, e drishtanto jotha totha. Je bap bimatake shire dhore, emon baper bhorsha britha.

A father’s fondness follows the mother’s love; you see that everywhere. But a father who carries the stepmother on his head, as Shiva carries the Ganga, is no one to rely on.

Jodi bimata amay koren kole, dure jabe moner byatha.

If you show no mercy, should I go to my stepmother, the Ganga? If she takes me in her lap, my heart’s pain will go away.

Proshad bole ei kotha, Bedagome achhe gantha. Oma je jon tomar nam kore, tar harmala ar jhuli-kantha.

Prasad says this, and it is woven into the Vedas and Agamas: Mother, whoever takes your name ends up with a necklace of bones, a beggar’s bag and a patched quilt.
