मा होया कि मुखेर कथा

1. মা হওয়া কি মুখের কথা।
   কেবল প্রসব করে হয় না মাতা, যদি না বুঝে সন্তানের ব্যথা॥

   Ma howa ki mukher kotha. Kebol proshob kore hoy na mata, jodi na bujhe shontaner byatha.

   Is being a mother just a matter of words? Giving birth alone does not make a mother, if she does not understand her child’s pain.

   माँ होना क्या मुँह की बात है? सिर्फ़ जन्म देने से कोई माँ नहीं बन जाती, अगर वह संतान का दर्द न समझे।

2. দশ মাস দশ দিন, যাতনা পেয়েছেন মাতা।
   এখন ক্ষুধার বেলা সুধালে না, এল পুত্র গেল কোথা॥

   Dosh mash dosh din, jatona peyechhen mata. Ekhon khudhar bela shudhale na, elo putro gelo kotha.

   A mother bears the pain of ten months and ten days. Yet now, when I am hungry, you have not even asked whether your son came or where he went.

   दस महीने दस दिन माँ ने पीड़ा सही। पर अब भूख के समय तुमने पूछा तक नहीं कि बेटा आया या कहाँ गया।

3. সন্তানে কুকর্ম করে, বলে সারে পিতামাতা।
   দেখে কাল প্রচণ্ড করে দণ্ড, তাতে তোমার হয় না ব্যথা॥

   Shontane kukormo kore, bole share pitamata. Dekhe kal procondo kore dondo, tate tomar hoy na byatha.

   When a child does wrong, the parents step in to set it right. Yet you watch fierce Time punish me harshly, and it does not hurt you.

   संतान बुरा काम करे, तो माता-पिता ही उसे सुधारते हैं। पर तुम देखती हो कि प्रचंड काल मुझे कठोर दंड दे रहा है, और तुम्हें दर्द नहीं होता।

4. দ্বিজ রামপ্রসাদ বলে, এ চরিত্র শিখলে কোথা।
   যদি ধর আপন পিতৃধারা, নাম ধোরো না জগন্মাতা॥

   Dij Ramproshad bole, e choritro shikhle kotha. Jodi dhoro apon pitridhara, nam dhoro na Jogonmata.

   Ramprasad, the brahmin, says: where did you learn such ways? If you follow your father’s nature, the stony mountain’s, don’t call yourself Mother of the World.

   द्विज रामप्रसाद कहते हैं: यह आचरण तुमने कहाँ सीखा? अगर अपने पिता (पत्थर जैसे पर्वत) का स्वभाव अपनाओ, तो जगन्माता नाम मत धरो।
