Kaitthala niraikani appamodu aval pori kappiya karimugan adi penik, Katridum adiyavar butthiyil uraibava karpagam ena vinai kadidhegum, Matthamum madhiyamum vaitthidum Aran magan marporu thiralpuya madhayaanai, Matthala vayiranai utthami pudhalvanai mattavizh malarkodu panivene.

I cherish the feet of the elephant-faced one who eats his handful of fruit, appam, flattened rice and puffed rice. He dwells in the minds of devotees who learn of him, and like the wish-fulfilling tree he makes karma flee at once. With honey-dripping flowers I bow to the son of Hara, who wears datura and the moon: the rutting elephant with mighty wrestler's shoulders, drum-bellied son of the noble Mother.

Mutthamizh adaivinai murpadu giridhanil murpada ezhudhiya mudhalvone, Muppuram eriseidha ach Chivan urai radham achchadhu podiseidha adhidheeraa, Atthuyaradhu kodu Subramani padum appunam adhanidai ibamaagi, Akkuramagaludan achchiru Muruganai akkanam manamarul Perumaale.

First lord, who before all others wrote the great epic on the foremost mountain, Meru; great hero, who crushed to dust the axle of Shiva's chariot when he set out to burn the three cities; great lord, who appeared as an elephant in the millet field where Subrahmanya was in distress, and in that moment brought young Muruga and the hunter girl together in marriage.
